the celery cabinets with light yellow walls sound really nice (for some reason, when i think kitchen, i think warm yellow. knee-jerk association that makes NO sense since my kitchen at home is definitely cream and green).

I like the idea for white cabinets for some reason, with celery/avocado/limey sage trim and sunny yellow walls. That's my not-well-formed opinion. I haven't seen your house since last Christmas, I don't think. Are you having another gathering this year?

Don't underestimate the orange family of colors. Get some paint sample strips and hold them up against both the dining room wall and the counter tops. Or, go with a yellowy color which might change and mellow as the sun moves through the sky. And, creamy cabinets. Or, you could just plaster the walls with Jude Law's face. I'm sure Kenny wouldn't mind...

I like Molly's suggestion. Besides, I have faith in your sense of style, so I'm sure whatever you choose will look fabulous! Oh, and if you lived in California, I'd totally nominate you for "Pimp My Ride." For real.

Who is this other Molly! I'm jealous! Okay, I vote this, if the celery compliments/does not clash with the countertops: "celery-colored cabinets with white trim, with warm pale yellow or cream walls." Or, just paint Jude Law's ass all over the cabinets.

Ha, the other Molly is my sister. Thanks for all the suggestions, everybody! I'm currently leaning towards pale yellow on the lower half of the wall, white trim and cabinets and a bright salmony/orange color (like the fiestaware vase in the dining room picture I posted) on the upper half of the wall. I like the celery cabinet idea, but the dining room looks into the kitchen and it would be too much green, I think. PS. to sister-Molly, yes, we are doing a X-eve gathering. PPS. to Lauren - wouldn't I be GREAT on Pimp My Ride? That would RULE.

Did you rule out all black? Or maybe black and white stripes with a skull and crossbones motif? Just a thought.

Hmmm. If only you could paint Jude Law's ass on your kitchen wall. Alas, I think your hubby would take umbrage. Anywhoodles, my parents have (thank you 1960s interior design) orange-red counter tops. More orangy than red, really. Fugly, fugly, fugly. What my mom did, which my best friend the artisty girl suggested, was choose colors in the color spectrum of orange and yellow. Sounds wierd, but it actually looks very nice and citrus-y. Since your kitchen is small, use a light, bright color on the wall to make it seem larger. Celery is a good idea. Stick in the greens and you won't go wrong.
