Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.

It's been such a sad week. There is just a weight of sadness and grief in everyone's eyes here. Richmond is a fairly large town but it has a very small town within it and everyone knew them in some fashion or another. They were part of everything that was good in Richmond and were the ultimate cool kids. That something like this could happen at all much less to people I know, is unthinkable. It is a nightmare. Those kids, man.

Kenny and I went to the vigil last night, parking a few blocks away and walking down quiet neighborhood streets to their house. From everywhere, every direction, people was quietly walking in with us. Nobody said a word but we all had the same feeling, the same intent. I saw so many familiar faces and there were so many children there for the same reason we were. That was the hardest part. My niece was good friends with the youngest daughter and my sister's entry yesterday was heartbreaking.

The only thing that marred the vigil was the huge bank of stadium lighting that had been set up either by the police department or the TV camera crews. It kind of made the candlelight part less effective but what can you do. I really hope this gets solved quickly and doesn't get sensationalized by the national media. It's too close to home and too personal.

My one hope is that wherever the Harvey family is now, they have no memory of the pain and suffering they went through. Last night we lit a candle in their memory and then went home and cracked open a bottle of champagne to celebrate their remarkable lives. Rest in Peace, friends.
